Smith’s relationship with North Africa veers solidly into the arena of Orientalism, all “exotic” vistas and markets, but Eberhardt’s engagement is less easy to categorize: her obsessive documentation of her travels and the people she encountered employs a number of Orientalist stereotypes, but she was also a devout Muslim and fluent speaker of Arabic who strongly advocated for French decolonization of North Africa. If Smith’s Orientalism is tha t of a dreamy pilgrim  to a land of magical barbarians, Eberhardt’s is something less easily dismissed: the observations of a gender-bending polyglot who spent much of her writing exploring a deeply personal relationship to her faith and the people she encountered. I read Eberhardt for the first time a few weeks after I finished M Train; it’s easy to see why Smith was so drawn to her history and her work, and both women’s early lives follow similar arcs of solitude, devotion, and self-discovery. According to Paul Bowles’s introduction to Oblivion Seekers, a brief, patchwork collection of Eberhardt’s writing (fiction, nonfiction, and strange meditations that are neither, or possibly both), “her nature combined an extraordinary singleness of purpose and an equally powerful nostalgia for the unattainable,” a description that could just as easily be applied to Patti Smith. It’s easy to problematize the iconoclastic appeal of both women, who defined their own independence by rejecting femininity itself rather than rejecting or subverting the ways in which patriarchal constraints are applied to (white, in this case) women’s lives (appropriately enough, Eberhardt is one of the only female writers or artists Smith cites as influential i n either M Train or Just Kids, though she’s a big fan of The Killing’s fictional detective Sarah Linden). But it’s also difficult to escape the tremendous appeal of their narratives, particularly as a woman writer deeply invested myself in building a life outside dominant ideologies of what women’s stories should look like. The idea of a life indifferent to any demands, free of yearning for material comfort, devoted exclusively to the pleasures and hardships of work, of travel, of continual engagement with the foreign, is an idea fundamentally rooted in a certain kind of privilege, accessible only to people who have the option of passing through the world with the freedom to envision themselves as independent. And yet both women’s writing and lives offer a glimpse of a path so engaging as to be impossible to entirely reject. “I was my own lucky hand of solitaire,” Smith says in M Train; her refusal to cede to the idea that a woman alone is a tragic figure is so absolute that she does not even entertain the thought long enough to reject it. “They are epicureans, voluptuaries; perhaps they are sages,” Eberhardt writes of her titular oblivion seekers, hash smokers in a kif den. “Even in the darkest purlieu of Morocco’s underworld, such men can reach the magic horizon where they are free to build their dream-palaces of delight.” That freedom, fraught as it may be, is a promise it’s hard to turn down. This tells me that the temperature up here is cooler then the temperature in Brooklyn. The appearance of the school seemed pretty quiet and small, which is an advantage towards Binghamton. When we entered a young man who has graduated from Oneonta and now works there explained to us about admissions, programs, and life on and around Oneonta College. Our tour guidance at Oneonta was a junior name Alexis who majored in education and biology so far in the school. The first area she showed us was the diner area which was smaller than the lunch space in Binghamton but it was cozy and comfortable. Next were the classrooms which some can fit up to 300 students and some were made for smaller classes such as 17 students to 1 instructor. Classroom setups are similar to Binghamton but seeming that Binghamton has more space the classroom sizes may decrease. Oneonta’s majors are also similar to Binghamton, but this college seems to put more effort into education majors which is another advantage. Lastly, Alexis showed us the dorm rooms which were very short in height but made up in length and width. The rooms were smaller and less spacious as the ones in Binghamton, but they were cozy and comfortable enough to live in. The Key Diffrence Between Macro Economics And Micrpeconomics Economic theory can be classified into two parts- 1) Microeconomic Theory and 2) Macroeconomic Theory. Micro and Macro-these two terms were first used by Ragnar Frisch. The term micro means small. The other term macro means large. Macroeconomics deals with the analysis of individual economics units such as consumers, firms and small aggregates or groups of individual units such as industries and markets. However, macroeconomics deals with the analysis of the economy as a whole and its large aggregate such as total national output, national income, total consumption, aggregate investment, etc. The microeconomic theory makes a microscopic study of the economics. This theory tries to determine the mechanism through which different economic units attain equilibrium. This theory does not consider the totality of behavior of all units in the economy. It takes into account the total resources of the economy as given and tries to analyze how these resources are allocated efficiently among di fferent economic units such that their utility will be maximized. On the other hand, macroeconomics is concerned with the behavior of the economy as a whole. This theory deals with the total amount of goods and services of an economy, the growth of the output, inflation rate, unemployment rate, the balance of payment, exchange rate, etc. The main focus of this macroeconomic theory is on the economic behavior and the policies that can affect total consumption, investment, monetary stock in an economy, the budget, amount of debt, etc. In brief, this theory deals with the major economic issues arises in an economy(Bishop, 2013). Why The Income Must Be Equal To The Expenditure In an economy, total income must be equal to the total expenditure so that the economy will be in the equilibrium. Every economic transaction has a buyer on one side and a seller on the other side. Therefore, each expenditure by the buyer will be the each income of the seller. Thus, it can be said after considering the total economy as a whole the total income of an economy will be equal to the total expenditure of the same economy. The total expenditure of an economy can be measured using the GDP of that economy. It is the total expenditure done by the economy on its currently produced goods and services. On the other hand, the total income of an economy in a given period is the total earnings of the economy from the current production of goods and services. Any imbalance in the income and expenditure will take the economy in a disequilibrium position from where the economy always tries to return its equilibrium point. The amount of inventories plays a significant role in this adjus tment process. The firms in an economy experience unplanned changes in the inventories. This induces the firms to change their production level immediately. This change in the production level in turn influences the total income and total expenditure of the economy. As a result of this, the economy move towards the equilibrium point. This adjustment process has been shown in the following figure. In the below figure, initially the economy is operating at point A. The 45-degree line in the below diagram shows all the point where income equals expenditure. Let us assume that for some reasons, the GDP is greater than the income. This has been shown by the income level Y1. In this situation, the firms are selling less than they are producing. The unsold goods are then added to the inventory stock. This unplanned increase in inventory induces the firms to reduce their production. The process of this inventory accumulation and the continuous fall in income continues until the economy reaches its equilibrium position(Sheffield, 2015). Again let us assume that the GDP is lower than the total income. This is indicated in the following figure by the income level Y2. In this situation, the firms have to meet the demand for goods and services by drawing down their total stock of inventories. But when the firms see their stock of inventory is decreasing continuously, they have to increase their production level. As a result, the economy again approaches to the equilibrium point (Bishop, 2012). Therefore from the above analysis it can be concluded that any imbalance in the income and expenditure induces the economy to move from the disequilibrium position to the equilibrium position. Therefore, to keep the economy in a stable position the income of the economy must be equal to the expenditure of the economy. The Importance Of Gdp To Policymakers Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the value of all final goods and services produced in the country within a given period. This includes the value of goods such as house and electronic goods, and the value of services, such as train, airplane rides, the lecture by the teacher, etc. The value of each and every good and service is calculated at the current market price. This is a very esoteric concept from the common mans view but the very useful concept at the time of policy making by the economists.GDP is the well-being indicator of the residents of a country. This measure can be used easily to understand the current state of an economy as well as how the economy is changing over time. This measure is also useful to compare the economic conditions between different countries. Now different uses of GDP estimate will be discussed below to understand why policymakers give so much importance both on the value of GDP and also the GDP growth rate (Klein, Bauman and Ramos, 2013). 1) GDP is calculated by adding together total consumers expenditure, investment expenditure, government expenditure and the amount of net export (GDP=C+I+G+NX). These four components describe the present inclusive scenario of an economy. Hence, this GDP can give insight into the current trend of the economy. This also helps the policymaker to understand the relative position of the country compared to another country in the world economy. The policymaker then adopts various fiscal and monetary policies to reach the targeted GDP growth rate and narrow the gap between two countries (Krugman, Wells and Baechler, 2013). 2) GDP is also a useful indicator used by the policymaker of a country for the internal development to make various economic planning and formulate effective policy. Government of a country often shows interest in the study of demographic change, overall health condition of the population, supply of skillful labor, overall literacy state of the country along with the countrys GDP. This helps them to allocate scarce resources efficiently such that the sectors having an urgent need for money will get the capital first. This efficient allocation is very useful especially for the rapid economic development of both developing countries and less developed countries (Library.ulster.ac.uk, 2015). 3) GDP growth rate is also important for the policymakers of the central monetary authority of a country. This rate helps the policy makers to set appropriate interest rate and other tools they used to control the money liquidity in the economy. It is known that interest rate is negatively linked with the money supply in an economy. A decrease in the interest rate leads to the increase of investment by investors and also the consumption spending by the consumers. As a result, the money supply in the economy increases so much. This increment in the money supply also influences on the overall price level of the economy and leads to the rise in inflation rate. A high inflation rate can hamper the economic growth of a country in the long run. Very high or too low inflation rate both can impede the growth rate. Therefore, the level of inflation rate should be at the moderate level. To keep the inflation rate at a desired level for sustainable development the policy maker has to implement effective monetary policy and for that it needs to observe first the countrys GDP (Library.ulster.ac.uk, 2015). Conclusion At the end, from the above analysis it can be said that although both micro and macro economics deal with the efficient allocation, there is a little difference between them. To my opinion, despite both therapists show high professional level, they both make mistakes in their actions. Dr. Berger does not recognize the essence of relations between Conrad and his mother. He pushes the boy to reveal his feeling to his mother in order to be rejected again. Despite it finally clears up the situation, this experience is too hard for the teenager who experiences hard trauma after the death of his older brother. Dr. Maguire starts too personal relations with the patient. The patient provokes him to start dealing with his personal problems. Despite these facts are good for the plot of the movie, they do not correspond to the medial ethics. Probably I would choose non of the therapists. When speaking about the patients, I think that Conrads case is interesting and challenging. I would be interested to help him to pass through the feeling of loss and to build normal relations with his parents.

The Theme of Love in Poetry I have chosen to compare four poems, the first one is 'Porphyrias Lover'. It is written by Robert Browning who died in 1889. The second poem, 'My Last Duchess', is also by Robert Browning. Browning was a great poet in the Victorian age and married Elizabeth Barratt. The third poem is called 'First Love'. It is written by John Clare (1793-1864). The final poem is 'Ballad'. It is an anonymous poem as no-one knows who wrote ballads. This is because they are word of mouth and are passed down through many generations going through minor changes each time and therefore by the end they become a completely different poem to the one in the beginning. The three poets write about the same theme but, as expected, have many differences and similarities with each other in their writing techniques. Obviously, the two poems by Robert Browning will be very similiar to each other. 'Porphyrias Lover' and 'My Last Duchess are both written from a mans point of view . This shows that Browning has used the same approach to both of the poems. Maybe he wants to make a point of men not always being listened to and so writes both poems with a biased interpretation of the event. 'Porphyrias Lover' is about a girl named Porphyria who seduces a man who is possesive and undoubtedly insane. Some of the techniques included in Porphyria's Lover are Pathetic Fallacy, endstopped lines, personification, metaphors and en jambement. The poem begins using pathetic fallacy (the weather and atmosphere outside reflect the girls feelings) and personification of the wind, 'The sullen wind was soon awake', to set the scene. Straight away we feel edgy around this man because he says, 'I listened with heart fit to ... ...ou are in one of the characters positions and that you understand exactly how they feel. En jambement gives a sense of disorder. It becomes too regular if only endstopped lines are used in the poem although it does control difficult explanations. The obvious difference between all the poems, is the structure and regular rhythm and rhyme patterns. Porphyria's Lover is constructed using alternate rhyming lines with roughly eight syllables to each line whereas My Last Duchess is written in rhyming couplets with ten syllables to each line. As these patterns are even, they create a sense of balance and control within the poem, especially if the lines are endstopped. If on the otherhand, there is en jambement present, the poem is still effective and probably even more so because it adds a bit of life and irregularity instead of the constant even beat.

In the Documentary â€Å"Child of Rage† a six and-a –half year old girl named Beth was severely traumatized when she was one year old. She started her life in tragedy when her father would sexually molest/abuse her. The result of his actions on Beth caused her to become unattached from people around her, including her brother, John, and he adoptive parents. She developed a consciousness that enabled her to hurt or kill without remorse. The results of Beth’s abuse caused her to have uncontrollable rage, which she took out on herself and her brother, John. As the documentary says she is a child,†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦who cannot love or accept love,† (Child of Rage, Gaby Monet, 1990). During Beth’s therapy sessions with Dr. Ken Magid, a clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of severely abused children, she admitted to wanting to hurt her family. She wanted to stab her parents in their sleep. Beth said that the reason she wanted to do this because she did not want to be around people, she did not like people. It was mentioned that the sexual abuse that Beth had experienced as a younger child caused to commit inappropriate sexual acts, mainly against her brother, John. She would also begin to masturbate at inappropriate times and on a regular basis. Along with Signs of incontrollable rage inside of Beth started to show when she killed three baby birds, stuck pins in the household pets and John, pinch, squeeze, or kick John’s penis, would get up in the middle of the night and punch John in the stomach, and finally continuously hit John’s head on the concrete floor in the basement. As time went on without her getting the proper treatment her violent tendencies escaladed. Dr. Magid thought, for the wellbeing of the household, Beth needed to be temporarily separated from her family. So Beth was sent to a home that was run by an expert at raising children with early attachment disorders. At this home Beth began to develop a sense of right and wrong, along with responding to affection, and feels bad when she does something wrong. Beth healed a lot when she was at the special home for early attachment disorder children. Even though she has changed she will still need extensive therapy. Now Beth is about thirty years old and is doing very well for herself working as a pediatric nurse. She also currently works with adoptive mother, Nancy Thomas, and her company Families by Design promoting Attachment Therapy and its parenting methods through lectures and material sales. Beth, Nancy, and Terena Thomas co-authored the book Dandelion on My Pillow, Butcher Knife Below (2004). Beth Thomas sells DVDs of these films, along with her presentation on â€Å"Attachment Disorder† and Attachment Therapy parenting methods which she credits her mother with inventing. (Introduction): Throughout her novel, The Women of Brewster Place, Ms. Naylor emphasizes the importance of sister hood by showing how the women are strengthened by their relationships with one another and proving that men are not necessary to their survival or happiness. Thesis: The strengthening of women through other women is illustrated by Matties role as a daughter to Miss Eva, a sister to Etta Mae, and a mother to Lucielia. PARA 2: Miss Eva Turner plays a vital role in Matties life by taking her in during her loneliness and destitution and treating Mattie and Basil as if they are her own family. PARA 3: The sisterhood between Mattie and Etta Mae is illustrated by each womans willingness to help the other in through their†¦show more content†¦Lucielia was literally dying of grief and rage. It is Matties intervention and her ability to place Lucielias grief in a historical context and to know it as one more instance of murdered dreams in a long history of such murders that undergirds her life saving and healing intervention (Aull, 2) Mattie healed and renewed Lucielia physically and mentally. Mattie magnificently wrestles Ciel, dying of grief, back to life (Gottlieb p.1484). Mattie took on the role of a mother when she nursed Lucielia back to health. Mattie treated and nursed Lucielia as if handling a newborn(Naylor, 104). Matties relationship with Basil teaches her valuable lessons that help her to be a more effective mother figure to Lucielia. Matties mistake with Basil is she used him to fill a void. She loved the fact that he was solely dependent on her. M y Bed hasnt been empty since Basil was born (38). Mattie spoiled Basil to the point he would always have to have his way. He knew his mother would always be there for him. Because of that, he took advantage of her. It was hard for Mattie to watch the turmoil and sadness Lucielia had to encounter in her love life. It was like watching her child suffer. However, Mattie wasnt going to make the same mistake she made with Basil. Mattie let Lucielia take control of her own life. She never told her what to do. She just listened and gave her support her.
